The first two weeks of the fellowship are dedicated to a series of Special Topics Courses including:

- EPIC Electronic Medical Record Introduction

- Introduction to Birmingham Regional EMS Protocols
- EMS Ride a Longs
The interactive, hands-on component of the fellowship involves off-site Seminars that cover:
- Gunshot Wound
- Trauma Conference
- Snake Bite
- Diversity in Medicine
- Sports Medicine
Weekly didactic lectures, held over four hours on Thursday mornings, provide the foundational structure for the year of learning. This lecture series meets the requirement set by the American Academy of Emergency Physicians. Included in the didactic lectures is a dedicated lecture series delivered throughout the program, featuring:
- EKG Interpretation
- Toxicology Series
- Radiology Series
- Point of Care Ultrasound
- Pediatric Simulation
Workshops given throughout the program give hands on experience on a variety of topics, including:
- Dental Skills
- ENT Skills
- Wound Care
- Cardiac Surgery Advanced Life Support
- Urology Skills
- Orthopedic Splints
Each fellow will be provided with a complimentary subscription to EMRap, offering flexible, on-the-go learning, even during commutes to and from the hospital.
